John Klatt Award

The John Klatt Award is given annually by the West Linn Historical Society to a group or individual for significant contribution to preserving the heritage of West Linn. The recipient of the award receives a framed certificate and has their name added to a plaque that will be publicly displayed in the future. The honor is awarded each year at the Historical Society's annual meeting in January.

John Klatt was a longtime resident of the Historic Willamette Neighborhood in West Linn. He was a founding member of the West Linn Historical Society, which got their start in 2014. He was also founder and sole proprietor of Old Oregon Photos, a unique collection of curated photos of the Oregon Territory, Along with his wife, Jody Carson, they purchased and restored a historic house in Willamette. He loved researching and writing about local history. Upon John's death in 2021, his wish was granted of having Old Oregon Photos and his extensive collection of books and papers donated to the Willamette Falls and Landings Heritage Area Coalition for continued access to this treasured resource.

John Klatt Award Past Recipients

2022 Recipient - Larry McIntyre

The first John Klatt Award was granted in 2022 to Larry McIntyre. Larry was mayor of West Linn from 1983 to 1986, a longtime member of the Willamette Falls Heritage Foundation, served many years on the Old Time Fair board, and was a founding member of the West Linn Historical Society. He is well known for his portrayal for many years of Robert Moore, one of the first settlers on the west shore of the Willamette River opposite Oregon City, and founder of Linn City, the predecessor of West Linn.
