Greg Nokes

On Sunday, April 7, 2019, the West Linn Historical Society hosted its guest speaker, local West Linn resident and author, Greg Nokes. Mr. Nokes discussed and shared tales from his latest book, "The Troubled Like of Peter Burnett: Oregon Pioneer and First Governor of California." The book traces the life of Peter Burnett, the defense attorney for Mormon leader Joseph Smith, the head of the first major wagon train to Oregon in 1843 and the founder of the city of Sacramento. With his radically charged views, Burnett was a talented but flawed leader in the American West. Guests were able to learn more about this complex pioneer of the old West.
